Business Manager Visa

1. Active Involvement in Business Required

If the applicant is not substantially involved in the business (e.g., outsourcing all operations), the visa may be denied.
2.Full Payment of Taxes and Social Insurance
Enrollment and payment of:

Employment insurance
-
Workers’ accident compensation insurance
-
Health and pension insurance
-
Corporate tax
-
Consumption tax
-
Inhabitant (residence) tax
3.Regarding overseas travel during your stay

Regarding travel abroad during your stay: Immigration has clearly stated that if you leave Japan for an extended period without a valid reason, you will be deemed not to have been actively engaged as a Business Manager visa holder in Japan, and your visa renewal will not be approved. Therefore, if you travel overseas frequently, you must be prepared to provide a reasonable explanation.
4.Ensure that neither the company nor the Business Manager visa holder has committed any legal violations.

This includes immigration offenses (such as facilitating illegal employment), tax violations, and repeated traffic infractions.
Impact on Renewal, Permanent Residency

The new requirements will apply to all new and renewal applications after October 16, 2025

Those already holding the visa will have a grace period of 3 years (until October 15, 2028)

Renewal may still be approved if there's a reasonable prospect of meeting new criteria by the next renewal

Even if you meet the residence and employment requirements and satisfy all other conditions for permanent residency, Business Manager visa holders who do not comply with the revised approval standards cannot apply for PR.
Another common issue
Another common issue is when an applicant rents an office for the initial visa application, but later cancels the lease or moves the office to their home to save costs. In such cases, the visa holder must once again meet the official office requirements.
Be especially careful if you reduce your executive compensation or have not enrolled in the corporate social insurance system — these may negatively impact your visa status.
